A Mirror for Astronomy Day

Here are a few of snapshots of the parts of our mirror, ground and polished by many hands.

The edge has dozens of little chips. The rest of the mirror looks good; the crud visible in this picture is mostly the back side and a little dust.chips2.jpg (52k)
Emanating from many of the chips are starburst shaped unpolished regions; the largest ones extend a little more than 1/8 inch from the edge.lotsachips.jpg (41k)
There are several larger chips on the edge. And three 1/2 scratches (part of one visible here at about 2 oclock).bigchip.jpg (37k)
