Passing Fronts Mean Turbulent Air
- Seeing bad day after
- Seeing before may also be bad depending on weather system
Fronts Passing to the North may affect Bay Area
- E.g. Front on June 11, 2004
Notes:
Passing fronts bring turbulent air. Most of the time when a front passes the seeing is academic since the sky is cloudy. But the change in air masses can effect the seeing even days after the front passes. Maritime Polar air masses (from Alaska) tends to be unstable and cause a lot of convection currents (rising air).
Even in the summer we still may be affected by weather. June 11, 2004 had clear skies in the bay area. A large weather system to the north caused such heavy winds that we were forced off of Fremont Peak. Lower sites reported crummy seeing.
