So I can't bring the drinks. I have often just done a 1/2 gallon carton of lemonade and some cups on our warmer nights. There is come change in the kitty for this (or I bet the treasury could pay). thanks, Steven Nelson From wb6yru at aenet.net Sat May 1 22:56:26 2004 From: wb6yru at aenet.net (Gary Mitchell) Date: Sat Sep 30 03:57:24 2006 Subject: [SJAABoard] Absent at board meeting References: <000701c42fd8$ce19df60$60d9fea9@Turtlerock> Message-ID: <40948D8A.D66@aenet.net> Bob & Brenda Havner wrote: > > I will be absent from the board meeting as I am driving to Berkeley to pick > up tonight's speaker. That's awfully nice of you. He got our $25 fee anyway. :) Gary From billosh at accesscom.com Sun May 2 10:56:51 2004 From: billosh at accesscom.com (William O'Shaughnessy) Date: Sat Sep 30 03:57:24 2006 Subject: [SJAABoard] Board Minutes 5/1/2004 Message-ID: <200405021756.i42Hup4Z016175@shell.accesscom.com> SJAA Board Meeting Minutes 5/01/04 (Minutes taken by Bill O'Shaughnessy) The meeting was called to order by Mike Koop. Board members present were: Gary Mitchell Dave Smith Bill O'Shaughnessy Mike Koop Craig Scull Bob Havner arrived late Steve Nelson has resigned from the the board. Treasurer's Report Checking 10368.13 as of 3/12/04 Money Mkt. 2850.60 as of 4/ 6/04 Greg. Fund 399.57 as of 3/16/04 Insurance report Check was Fed Ex'ed to Seabury and Smith Coverage and expense is similar to Astro. League and ARRL Loaner Scope report by Mike Koop There is a lot of activity in the Loaner program. Observational Class status Jim Van Nuland presented a class on different kinds of scopes last month. June class will be Bill O. on stars. July class will be Rob H. on weather's impact on observing. ATM Class status There was a conflict on the room usage, but things were done outside successfully. Mike K. has asked the park system for a cabinet for SJAA in the meeting hall. He also requested an off switch for the sprinklers. Houge Star Parties Status There was an excellent turnout for this past Friday's Houge SP. It was almost a no moon. There was just enough moon to show the public. The planets are still putting on a good show. M104 was visible also. Doing a regular star party at Evergreen was discussed. The possibility of doing both Houge and EVC on 3rd quarter was discussed with no concensus. Calendar There is a request for a school SP on Summit road May 13. Not sure of coverage for it yet. New Business Insurance related: Mike suggested we develop a safety plan for each of our events. The consensus was that we should and we will research ones available individually and report back. It was also noted that we currently inform people about Coe and Fremont Peak Star Parties. We no longer officially sponsor or host them. Steve Nelson has resigned due to lack of insurance. Rob Hawley was voted unanimously as replacement board member, contingent upon the club receiving insurance. Auction Wrap-Up A financial summary was sent out via email. The physical set up for registration worked well with the paper work table being separate from Gary and Jim's table. There was some confusion about late bidder numbers. It was suggested that there be a rest break half way through the auction to stretch and use restroom and catch-up. Observatory status Rob Hawley was asked to head up an observatory committee. He and Lee Hogan have been looking for sites already. It was reported that San Diego Astro Club has 10 acres and sublets. It was discussed whether the observatory should be spun off of SJAA. The consensus was that it should stay part of SJAA and should be on private land. Club Logo A new club logo was discussed. Any inputs are welcome. It should have people and scopes. Astrocon July 20 through July 24 Mike reported that Astrocon is sponsoring tours to Lick and he would like the club to do one before hand. Bill O. moved that we authorize Mike to plan such a trip and make any expenditures required for it. Gary M. seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. Mike reported on a few of the other activities of Astrocon. Perseid Star Parties We are comitted to assisting Villa Montalvo with their Perseid star party. Villa Montalvo is the official sponsor of it not SJAA. We will also be assisting Calero Lake Park with their Perseid party. We should pass out SJAA business cards both places. SJAA 50th Anniversary is 12/6/2004. Meeting may be on 12/8/04. We should celebrate. Observatory Status will now be moved to old business in future meetings. This issue is a bit different. A different font in some areas and two standards are missing: Mark Wagner's Out There and Richard Stanton's Celestial Calendar - they were not available for this issue. This issue is nonetheless crammed full and without any contributions from yours truly. Thanks to those who did send in articles.
