Good point Akkana. I've added the following line to the minutes below:

It was decided that we have several scopes of this aperture already in our current inventory that are of better quality and condition than the signature scope.

SJAA - October 2008 Board Meeting Minutes

Board Members Present: Rob Hawley, Robert Armstrong, Lee Hoglan, Richard Neuschaefer, Mark Wagner, Greg Claytor.

Board Members Absent: Craig Scull (Proxy vote through Rob Hawley), Gordon Reade

Club Members Present: Jim Van Nuland

Meeting Called to Order

Rob Hawley called the meeting to order.

Board of Director Requirements

Rob Hawley mentioned the desire to change the bylaws to clarify the eligibility requirements to become a board member. It was decided the issue be discussed further during the next board meeting.

SJAA Representative to the AANC

Richard Neuschaefer moved to approve Mark Wagner AANC Rep. Motion seconded by Lee Hoglan. Motion passed with Rob Hawley. abstaining.

Ephemeris Mailing Preparation

Rob Hawley stated Gordon Reade mentioned prepping the September Ephemeris on his own for mail was much simpler. Rob Hawley added that he'd talk to Gordon to see if he would take on the responsibly from now on. This would also eliminate the need for Gordon having to drive an hour each direction to and from Hogue Park.

Swap Meet

Rob Hawley mentioned that Mike (?) and Gary (?) ran the Swap in years past. Rich Neuschaefer stated he didn't think he'd be available to run it this year. Rob Hawley agreed to book building 1 and talk to Gary about running the event Sunday, November 9th, 2008.

Signature Scope

It was decided that we have several scopes of this aperture already in our current inventory that are of better quality and condition than the signature scope. Rob Hawley motioned for Rich Neuschaefer to sell the scope to the previous loanee for what monies he could negotiate for it. Motion seconded by Lee Hoglan. Motioned passed unanimously.

Edmund Reflector

Robert Armstrong motioned to sell the Edmund Reflector scope at the Swap. Motion seconded by Mark Wagner. Motion passed unanimously.

Cassegrain Needing Repair

Rob Hawley mentioned a donated cassegrain, which needs a motor repair or replacement. Rob stated he would contact Phil Chambers to ask if he would be willing to perform the needed repairs.

Scope Donations

Rob Hawley mentioned the club has acquired an Orion ST120 on an equatorial mount and an Orion 6" reflector on a Super Polaris equatorial mount equipped with a SkySensor object locator.

Rich Neuschaefer moved to keep the ST120 and add it to the clubs loaner program. Motion seconded by Rob Armstrong. Motion passed with Rob Hawley abstaining.

There was discussion and suggestions about what to do with the Orion 6" reflector, but nothing was decided.

Lee Hoglan agreed to contact the person wishing to donate a 10" f4.5 Coulter Dobsonian and facilitate an assessment and acceptance by the club.

SJAA Observatory Fund

Rob Hawley mentioned that the club has a fund earmarked for an SJAA Observatory containing several thousand dollars. Rob stated that the likelihood of any observatory being built was remote and suggested the club should approach donors to gage their willingness to shift their donations to other club programs.

Jim Van Nuland agreed to send Rob Hawley a list containing names of donors with the understanding the list remain confidential. Also, it was suggested that the issue be mentioned in the Ephemeris.

Motion to Adjourn

Rob Hawley motioned to adjourn the meeting. Motion seconded by Rob Armstrong. Motion passed unanimously.
